Three years after "Fisherman's Woman", which was a beautiful accoustic album, Emiliana surprise us again with another new and very different album. After the trip hop of "Love in the time of science", and the poetic accoustic style of "Fisherman's Woman ", "Me and Armini" is an ecclectic mix, rich in different styles, disconcerting in the best way!
The first song, "Fireheads" opens perfectly the new album and emphasizes the new music direction. Again, Emiliana's special voice is predominant and we can almost feel she has reached a certain maturity with it.
Some of the songs remind us of the ballads and folk songs from "Fisherman's Woman", like "Beggar's prayer", "Bleeder", and "Hold Heart". Then come some songs in a radically different styles, away from everything Emiliana has done before, such as "Me and Armini" and the phenomenal "Jungle Drum". These are two very special songs in her discography, the first one being chosen as the first single, highlighting this new orientation in her music.
The absolutely beautiful song "Birds", the longest of the album bring us 6 min of pure happiness, in what is one of her most gorgeous song to date (it does remind us of her song "Weebles Fall" which was from a b side from the album Nommo (artist Slovo) released in 2002). "Gun", "Dead Duck", are more electro trip hop and "Big Jumps" , "Ahaha", "Heard it all before" and "Fireheads" are more pop style.
Emiliana found the best way to enjoy her success from "Fisherman's Woman", by working even harder and allowing herself to produce a very high quality album with fantastic song writing, composition, and singing. In the end, the album is very ecclectic, and perfectly directed without any weak songs. Her voice has never been better even if it was already really good in the previous albums and it seems, somehow, that Emiliana has reached a certain perfection in the way she uses it, especially on songs like "Birds" and "Fireheads". The transition to another style could have been badly done, but here it works remarkably and blend together all kind of different style in what is a very wide display of her music talents. This album is a joy to listen to, and will please each and every fan of Emiliana, even if some of them might be disconcerted at first, and will also opens new doors for a new fanbase. "Me and Armini" is mostly the album that strengthen Emiliana's place as one of the best singer of her generation.
