In April, we were telling you about the release of a new music project by Olivier Libaux "Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age" for which Emiliana recorded a song. The album is out today so let's take another look at this ambitious project, and focus on the song "Go with the flow" that Emiliana sings on the album.
The project starts in 2011, when Olivier Libaux (producer, author-compositor and guitarist from France) decides to create a concept album with a dozen of cover songs from American band Queens of the Stone Age.
After approval from Josh Homme, singer and guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age, Olivier Libaux then starts producing the album, named "Uncovered Queens of the Stone Age".

For the album, Olivier decides to work with female artists, and along Emiliana's contribution, we can find songs by Alela Diane, Skye (Morcheeba), Inara George, Ambrosia Parsley (Shivaree), Katharine Whalen, Youn Sun Nah, Clare Manchon (Clare And The Reasons), Gaby Moreno, Rosemary Standley (Moriarty), Susan Dillane.
The result is quite surprising and refreshing, and it's a welcome change from the usual cover albums we tend to get for this kind of project. It's both ambitious and daring, and the final result is fantastic. Olivier Libaux brought a lot of his own artistic touch to each songs and the artists gave it a new twist in their interpretations, it's like discovering the songs again, a new and lighter sound for songs that were originally more very "rock".
Now, it will be interesting to see how fans of QOTSA will react to this original approach to their favorite songs.
Emiliana performs the song "Go With The Flow" on the album. The original version is from the Queens of the Stone Age's "Songs for the Deaf" album.
The recording happened on May 3rd 2012, at the Mercredi 9 Studios in Paris, and here is how Olivier Libaux describes the day on his website uncoveredqosta:
She arrived on May 3rd, simply the most adorable person you could imagine.
We had lunch in a simple parisian restaurant with her and Frédéric, had a few glasses of wine, then recorded her vocals in the studio within a couple of hours.
While Emiliana was singing in the cabin, people around Frédéric's studio (there are a few studios there) were stopping by our door, listening to Emiliana's voice through our speakers.
They were smiling, enjoying the moment.
That's Emiliana's talent.
When the song was done, I proposed to drive Emiliana to her hotel in a taxi. She said "I don't like taxis, I don't like sitting in the rear and looking at people through a window, I prefer the metro, with normal people".
That's how Emiliana is.
Back to the song itself, and to give you an idea of the work done on the cover by Olivier and his team, you can listen to the original song "Go With The Flow" by Queens of the Stone Age, and then discover the cover as created by Olivier and Emiliana. We would like to thank Olivier Libaux for allowing us to share a preview of the song.
The album Uncovered QOTSA is out today, June 10th, in France and UK, and will be released on July 16th in USA.
